Kawasaki Receives Steam Turbine Order for South Korean Plant

Tokyo, October 17, 2023 — Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. announced today that it has received an order for one 8 MW class steam turbine generator set through Kawasaki Trading Co., Ltd. The order was placed by South Korea’s Hanwha Impact Corporation for use at their Ulsan Plant. Kawasaki will manufacture the steam turbine, the generator set’s primary component, at its Kobe Works, after which it will handle the installation and provide commissioning guidance onsite at the Ulsan Plant.

The newly ordered steam turbine generator set will replace the one previously delivered by Kawasaki in 1987, which has been used for captive power generation by Hanwha. All power generated will be used within the plant, and heat generated will be effectively utilized to realize energy savings and CO₂ emission reductions.

Kawasaki has received orders for more than 390 steam turbine generator sets worldwide, and this latest order represents the 51st for South Korea. Kawasaki earned this latest order thanks to high customer praise for its successes thus far in the field, Hanwha’s approximately 40 years of experience using Kawasaki equipment, and Kawasaki’s excellent after-sales services.

Kawasaki began manufacturing steam turbines for power generation in 1956. Since then, it has delivered steam turbines to a wide range of customers, including domestic and international power companies and others in the electric power industry, biomass power plant operators, waste-to-energy power plant operators, and steelmakers, chemical manufacturers, and others who have utilized the products for captive power generation and other such applications. Moving forward, Kawasaki will continue its active pursuit of product and technology improvements as well as strengthening plant engineering capabilities.
